COMMON QUESTIONS
ABOUT FAUX LEATHER

WHAT IS FAUX LEATHER?

A coated surface material engineered to give the look and handle of leather with performance values that can be tested and documented: abrasion, light fastness, flame retardancy, resistance to cleaning agents. Every Penche collection is developed against the conditions of the application it is made for.

IS FAUX LEATHER THE SAME AS ARTIFICIAL LEATHER?

Yes. The same material is called artificial leather in much of Europe, synthetic leather in apparel and footwear, coated fabric in the contract trade and vinyl in marine and automotive. Penche says faux leather throughout the site; the technical data sheet is the same document whichever name a project specifies it under.

HOW IS A COLLECTION SPECIFIED?

Start from the sector: each page above sets out the performance criteria that application is tested against and lists the collections tagged for it. From there, request the technical data sheet for the test values and a sample for colour and handle.

CAN A SURFACE BE DEVELOPED FOR ONE PROJECT?

Yes. Colour, texture, handle and construction are developed in our R&D laboratory for individual projects and collections, on your production timetable.
